The CWRU Maker’s Guild

less than 1 minute read

During sophomore year of university, I founded a club named “The Maker’s Guild”, whose focus was on engineering pranks and installation art projects along the lines of MIT engineering pranks and similar sources of inspiration. While we only ever managed to get around to two projects, one involving a triceratops, and the other involving a poorly-planned chessboard made entirely out of layers of CNC’ed plywood (which earned the club the nickname “The Dinosaur-Chess Club” by its Vice-President at the time), I still look back fondly on the experiences that I had with the other club members in this ridiculous pursuit, all of which happened on Undergraduate Student Government’s dime.

In one of the last semesters of the club’s existence, I gave this introductory talk to new members. The club ultimately failed because of the extremely studious attitude of most CWRU students putting a strain on what could be accomplished in the members’ free time, which was fairly unfortunate, but eh, that’s life, I suppose. Anyway, without further ado, the intro presentation for the Dinosaur-Chess Club.
